Be careful of Over-the-phone fraud

If someone calls you up and tells you that you have won a great prize. At the same time, you should keep your mind to calm down. Due to no one wants to leak his personal or financial information to the wrong person.

Last year, a man named Jonny called and told me that I had won an overseas trip. I felt excited for a brief moment. I suspected it to be a lie. But since this is the first time someone has tried to defraud me I was curious to know what he said. He told me that I won a VIP discount card which was valid for life and vouchers for shopping with a total value of NT$100,000. But I had to pay for NT$5,000 to claim my prize. Everyone knows you don’t have to pay to claim a prize. I thank this was a catch, so I told him that I really want to pay this money and took them to their company in person. He didn’t say anything and hung up.

I think never give your credit card details out over the phone or online. We should record the whole conversation when the fraudster calling. And then hand it in to the police to track them down.

Convenience stores in Taiwan

There are many convenience stores in Taiwan. They spread every corner and let your life feel very convenient. In other countries, their 7-Eleven is only open from seven a.m. to eleven p.m., not twenty-four hours, and it is inconveniently located the town.

When you walk into the store, clerks will greet to you with loud “huan ying guand lin”(歡迎光臨) sound. You can find many kinds of food in convenience stores. For instance, sushi, tea eggs, hamburgers, lunch box and so forth. Any time, if you feel hungry you can take them from convenience stores. The food items in convenience stores are always changing- but the prices are always reasonable. You also can make copies, fax information, pay your bills, at any time of the day or night.

There are always new promotions in convenience store and it is one of the best and most parts with our life. New products and new services are constantly being introduced in convenience stores. It is convenience twenty-four hours a day.

Keeping our roads safe

It is very important to feel safe driving or walking on the streets. But sometimes a few drivers break these rules if the police aren’t watching.

There are many traffic accidents in Taiwanese streets. Some people don’t follow the speed limit. With so much traffic it’s impossible to watch all the streets, but I think that using speed traps to watch for speeders is ineffective. I had ever seen the group of mothers angry about drunk driving. I think they have to crack down on drunk driving. Some drivers who drive crazy and they are too dangerous.

Now we have our own bike lane in most cities. They even close roads in downtown areas for a day to show nice it would be better without cars. You also can exercise and strengthen your body.

GM food

The continued advance of technology, people can change plants and animals. They also can make vegetables become bigger and taste better.

Many researcher try to find GM (genetically modifies) food might cause health and environmental problems. For instance, GM plants and animals could reproduce and spread, affecting other ones. Some countries have banned GM food, because some farmers want to increase their harvest, use pesticide on their crops. They think that there are big risks and may contain new allergens. But there are some people to support GM food, they think it also can be good for the environment. For example, insects will not eat GM food so that pesticides will be used less. In addition, we will use less land to grow plants, thereby protecting our forests.

Many people say that GM food should be labeled so that consumer can choose. In summary, GM food is whether or not changed the demand, consumer’s attitude are very important.

Women’s Responsibilities

The traditional family structure has been changed. In the past, most of men have
to work all day at their job, and women stay home for take care of their children. Nowadays, many women must abandon their original life in order to support the family.

Many families want to maintain a certain lifestyle or economic necessary, women usually go to work. At the same time, they also have to take care of children and household maintenance when they go home. Women undertake more responsibilities than they did in the past. Balancing a career and family can be difficult if their husbands are reluctant to share the housework and childrearing tasks.
If women want to improve their knowledge and go back to school to study, I think it would be too difficult to balance study and a family. Due to most of men have not enough patience to take care of children. In our class, many women have to give up their study to choice their family. It is very poor to them.

Penghu: A Wonderland

Penghu is the name of a group of island in Taiwan Strait. Although Penghu’s islands have a famous for being flat, dry, windy, they are actually fill with exciting things to see and do.

Many visitors go there to enjoy seafood and they want to eat fresh fish straight from the sea. Another of specialties is peanut candy, and most tourists purchase plenty of it before they return home. They also take back fried fish and squid as gifts for family members or friends. Many temples of Penghu are old, but most are still in good condition. For some visitors, dolphin watching and glass-bottomed boat rides are available.

Without a doubt, Penghu is more than just a group of islands. With delicious seafood, traditional temples and outdoor activities, it offers some fun for many people.

One of my favorite movies

One of my favorite movies is Shrek, it delighted audiences around the world. It is an animated cartoon of a traditional fairy tale. I got the contemporary humor from this animated movies.

The main characters are selfish and rude Shrek, Princess Fiona, the talking donkey, and Puss-in Boots cat. Some people expect that Fiona can marry a Prince Charming, who is not an ogre Shrek. They are unhappy and think Shrek who isn’t Fiona’s truelove. But the two must return to Fiona’s home in the Kingdom of Far Far Away and happened many things when they travelling. In this movie, there are some of Hollywood’s top actors adding to the comedy and make it more fun to audiences.

I think this movie is a modern classic fairy tale and an example of good filmmaking. I enjoy this classical movie because it helps me relax and laughed aloud. I expect to see where Shrek’s travels lead me next.

New Year Resolutions

For my lovely year, I want to make to a project of manage time, lose weight and improve English communication skill. This year I found something looks was difficult, though not as difficult as I thought it would be.

I want to manage my time, never put off for tomorrow what I can do today. I have to map out a schedule for the next week. I think everything can be done efficiently and correctly, including my work and homework, there is no excuse for wasting time. After all, time is money. Second, my health is not good, so I try to get enough exercise and eat right. I avoid eating too much fat or drinking too much drink with sugar. Sometime this is not easy because I am busy. Finally, I definitely want to improve my English, I didn’t study very hard when I was in college. But my favorite subject was English, so now I go back to school to improve my English ability. It’s time for get down to new year resolutions. Let me concentrate on the task at hand first.

A cross culture experience

Learning to live in another culture can be just as difficult as learning the language. To some, it is important to go to another country and learn about the way other people live.

It is hard to live in another country. Living overseas is a cross-cultural experience. I stayed in Mainland for half a year. I have to learn a whole new way of life and understand the way of others live. Maybe we think they talk too loud, their environment is too dirty. Some Mainlander eat cats, dogs, and snakes even you can see they kill cats in the market. It is their custom and it doesn’t sound like something we’d eat at our country. But we can’t be prejudiced about a country and its people just because of stereotypes and what others say.

We have to keep an open mind if you’re going to live in another culture. When living in another culture you have to respect their traditions. Perhaps it’ll give us a new perspective and help us understand things better.

Steve jobs’ speech in Standford

You’ve got to find what you love, Jobs says. Steve jobs delivered a speech at the commencement of Stanford in 2005. He shared three stories in her life with graduates. They are about the connecting the dots, love and loss, and his opinion about he how to face death.

At first, he wants to tell people, try to find what you love and don’t give up easily. Then you will find out you learn a lot even if you encounter great difficulties in your life. He said we should think positive and look on the bright side, and we’ll soon see light at the end of the tunnel. Next, we have to be positive to face death. No one wants to die, but no one has ever escaped it. He told us our time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. It is very important to us because if you know what you want and you never lose your faith. Sometimes life attacks your mind with a brick, if you realize that every cloud has a silver lining. Looking backwards and you will find that you get more and many happened things are meaning for you. On the other hand, God will direct us another way to find the difficult situation. Finally, he gave a word "Stay hungry, Stay foolish" to graduates. It means don’t give up and pursue the goal you want to reach, and never feel satisfy with your life.

A Wonderful Holiday

I went to Thailand for a holiday many years ago. Thailand is famous for many things, there are many stalls in night market, at cafés on the beach, or in luxury hotels in Bangkok. I will always remember Thailand kingdom of massage and their food.

I enjoy the Thai food of sweet, sour, and spicy. Green curry with chicken, and Thai hot and sour prawn soup are my favorites. On the other hand, Thailand is full of kingdom massage. I can relax and straighten my body after rubbing two hours. if I have time I want to go there and enjoy it again.

During this short trip to Thailand, my family and I also enjoyed it. Their temple had taken my family breath away. Their feel it was in a dignified manner and special. I want to go there with my family for a wonderful holiday.

Extreme weather around the earth

Because the global warming cause the earth’s weather has already begun to change dramatically. We have hotter days, warmer nights, and crazier weather in these years.

Temperatures are rising, it shows there will be more heavy rains, more floods and mudslides, more typhoons. Taiwan, for example, had some extreme weather and caused disaster. In addition, some countries were hit by a heat wave earlier in the year. Temperatures rose above forty degrees, killing many people. Heat is not the only extreme weather that global warming may bring us. Many Asian countries were ravage by heavy rains and floods. And we have already had colder winters, stronger typhoons in the past.

The earth’s weather will probably continue to become more unpredictable and more extreme. Complaining will only make matters worse. We have taken steps to solve the problem. Greenhouse effect makes global warming, so we should make less poisonous gas. To protect global is everyone’s responsibility.

If I had million dollars…

I love food, and I love try foods from different countries. If I had a million dollars, I would open an international restaurant. Every corner has my restaurant.

For instance, one part would look like a European restaurant with classy furniture. Another part would look like a Japanese restaurant with tatami mats, and another like a Chinese teahouse. In addition, I would have a menu with dishes from many countries and people could mix different dishes in one meal. If I were a millionaire, people in my neighborhood would be happy, because they would always have a place to eat delicious food from around the world.

After my restaurant more stable, I would do the business of helping people. I think helping others is also an occupation. After all, to give is better than receive.
Helping people would let me feel delighted.

Reading novel

I believe that reading novels is a great way to spend my free time. Fantasy novels are entertaining, but they also make me think about life and call my imagination.

Recently I read the Twilight. The novel is about a vampire named Edward love a girl, Bella. Bella meets the mysterious and alluring Edward, her life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Bella and Edward mutual attraction, on her body's special fragrance ── he smells particularly wants to absorb her delightful blood, but for love, also constrains own “the appetite”, does everything possible to protect her safety.

This novel’s descriptions are very vivid that I could imagine the world in my mind-the colors, the creatures, and everything. And although it is just a novel about an unreal world, it still made me think. I certainly recommend this book. It is worthy to ready. When we read a novel, our mind do much more than when we watch TV or a movie.

Improving my spoken English

Everyone wants to improve his English ability, but I think speaking is very important to me. We don’t have many chances to practice speaking English! Try to speak out is a good way to improve spoken English.

I envy many people study English to foreign countries, and I wish I could speak that well. I have to do is open my mouth and speak. Before go to ,I am afraid to make a mistake when I speak English. But now I read aloud from English book and learn some English songs. With new technology, improving your spoken English is easier than every before. With a CD-ROM, voice-recognition software, and a microphone, I can improve my pronunciation. And with a web camera, you can speak English with people around the world.

I hope I can speak English as much as possible and don’t stop or give up if I make a mistake. I think that practice makes perfect and I will speak English with confidence. If I want to improve my spoken English, I have to speak English.

Night markets in Taiwan

Bustling night markets have always been one of Taiwan’s unique tourist hot spots, and are a favorite food for lovers. The special thing was the large crowd in night market.

At night markets, you can find all kinds of snacks from different regions, allowing to eat to your heart’s content. Without a doubt, the night market was full of different smell of different smells. Everything smelled delicious, and it tasted delicious. I like to from stall to stall tasting different snacks. Besides snacks, night markets also have many enjoyable games, such as pinball, darts, fishing hoopla, and more. Although the food at night markets is tasty and cheap, you should pay attention to cleanliness and avoid eating anything looks unhygienic.

In my experience, I like to spend the day going from store to store looking for the lowest price. Of course, the best feature of night markets is that you can bargain with the vendors. I think many people from foreign countries enjoy this kind of culture in Taiwan.

The advantages and disadvantages of going to cram school

For many students, cram schools are a part of their after-school lives. I believe most of students don’t like to go there, but they do for expectation of their parents and good grades.

Cram-school teachers offer tips about learning their subjects, such as provide them with solutions to math questions, or good ways to memorize information, so that they will do better and get good grades on tests. However, cram schools also have a bad side. They not only deprive students of their precious when they want to relax and expanding their minds after school time. For some students, they don’t have good effective on learning at cram school.

In my opinion, if students rather spend more time to preview and review their textbook, and find the question to ask teachers, they will learn better on their subjects.

They just need to spend a few time to study after school and also have good performances on grades. At the same time, they don’t spend much money at cram school and enjoy their free time.

A Person Who Has Made a Difference: My Grandfather

My grandfather had already passed away many years. He was the best admire person in my life. Because he has the knowledge, earnest and, is good at communicating coordinated, he once had been appointed to successive town mayors' secretary. Although he only graduated from senior high school, not well educated, but at that time he must revise university student's archives.
I was remembering over 30 years ago, our town once had typhoon to attack and houses were been flooded surely. Residents suffered from the flooded pain. When Chief executive Chuyu Song inspected the sight of disaster, he was always accompanied town mayor to report the condition of the typhoon. After he and several town mayors put more effort into this matter, they were consulting finally. They had to dredge the canal, dug a big drain and increase the drainage systems. Taishan no longer is flooded from then.
My grandfather was hardworking, self-confident, and impeccably honest, and I admire him the most of anyone in the world. And I expect that my grandfather's spirit will keep in my mind, and when I do everything will think of him, and also try my best to attend the goal. My dear grandfather I will remember you forever, and will do as best as I can......

Encouraging someone

Someone may encounter a few setbacks in his whole life. They maybe become depress about a lot of things. Everybody has his own view of what happened. I got from so much encouragement from my teachers and friends, so I try to be more positive in dealing with the problem. Do you know how to cheering someone up?

If someone is depressed, you can say….Get your mind off your problem and think positive to look on the bright side. We have behind you one hundred percent. If someone lost his faith on study, you can say…Don’t let this difficulty dishearten you. No problem, I will help you on study. I have faith in you. If your friend is pessimist person, you can say…. Tell me about your worries. It’s always darkest before the dawn. Everything’s going to be all right.

All in all if you want to encourage someone up, please let him know he is not alone. And cheer him up or treat a good meal should make him feel better. You know the saying: Every clouds has a silver lining.

Introducing myself

I am very glad to have this opportunity to introduce myself. I was born on Sep. 25, 1973, in Taipei County, Taiwan. I have two younger brothers and I am the only one daughter of my parents. I am easy-going, active, independent and responsible. When I was a child, my parents are very strict with us and they think children should be well-behaved. Their concept influences me deeply.

Now I am a single parent and I have to raise a daughter by myself, but I think even if I am very fortunate financially, there are still the areas of depression and stress to personally battle. So I choose a sight of my own goals and dreams that it is to Lung-Hwa University of Science and Technology to study English. I believe everything will be fine if you want to do.

Since I was a college student, I have been interested in international trade, but my major was Banking and Insurance. I didn't have chance to learn about it before. But now I am happiest I can study English and learn how to write English letter for business. That way I get the best of both worlds, interest and study. My only regret is that the my own time is too short to prepare school test, because I am busy now at work and my job is stressful.

I want become an excellent salesperson and I think that to be a competent one, the most important elements are being responsible and detail-minded. So from now on, I have to training by myself and study English hard. I have been working in the present company for three months now. The working atmosphere here is good and my colleagues are very kind. I will try my best to do my duty and develop my potentiality.
